Hydraulic Upenders Industry Information

Hydraulic Upenders

Hydraulic Upenders are a means for changing the position and orientation of heavy cumbersome equipment or supply loads such as trucks, coils, paper rolls, and other forms of bulky and unwieldy loads. The precision design of this heavy duty equipment allows for a smooth and efficient method for tilting, rotating, and turning heavy items in a safe and reliable way.

What is a Hydraulic Upender?

The name hydraulic upender is a complete definition of what it is. When items are beyond the ability for workers to lift but need to be turned and repositioned, it is necessary to have a mechanism for changing their position for easy access and use. The first thought that may come to mind is using a forklift. Though that would seem to be a logical solution, the manipulation of large items, such as trucks, using a forklift can be hazardous and require exceptional skill.

Material management companies understood the need for special equipment and developed repositioning devices in the 1990s as a convenient method for taking large loads and changing their orientation. Using double acting tilt cylinders powered by industrial quality motors and hydraulic pump systems, heavy loads are rotated and repositioned in a short time for immediate use for production and storage.

Construction of Hydraulic Upenders

To perform as heavy duty equipment, hydraulic upenders are constructed from high quality steel that is tightly welded and sealed. For precision and control, they have electrical components that are activated by a push button switch. Much like other pieces for lifting and movement equipment, limit switches are used for controlling load rotation.

Since each type of load requires a different type of platform, upender manufacturers offer an array of choices when choosing the lifting platform:

Flat Beds or Platforms
Used for loads that are level and flat-bottomed.
V Saddles
Used in cases where the load is uneven or round so it can easily rest in the point of the V.

Types of Hydraulic Upenders

A major feature of upenders is the many types and varieties that are available to fit any need. When a truck needs to be unloaded and rotated, there are hydraulic and carefully designed platforms with grips and sides that lift and rotate the truck such that its load is dumped. When the load is not as large or heavy but still needs special handling, upenders are available to assist in repositioning and rotating.

This unique piece of equipment has become a vital part of warehouse and supply management as a convenient, efficient, and flexible means for handling those uncomfortable but manageable situations.
