If suppliers are reconditioning a steel drum, they may also add a sixth step called chime straightening.

Re-manufactured Drums

Drum re-manufacturing is a fairly involved process during which used drum suppliers remake the drum thoroughly. There are four main types of drum re-manufacturing. These include: 1) the replacement of an essential part of the drum structure, 2) the re-manufacturing of a drum based on the needs of a specific application, 3) the replacement of old hoops with newly rolled hoops, and 4) the changing of the drum category from UN 1A1 to UN 1A2.
